We invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Podravina’s Easter Eggs: Symbols of New Life” within the EU project “Wine folklore as a historical identity of Podravina and Pomurje” (reVITAlize) on 1 April 2022 (Friday) from 7 pm in the Koprivnica Gallery. The exhibition will present the art of decorating Easter eggs (pisanice) in Podravina and customs related to the making of Easter eggs, their usage and gift giving. The custom of decorating eggs provides us with joy and is a celebration of new life, which symbolically completes the cycle of eternal nature renewal. There are several decorating techniques, and different ones are specific to different places. Thus, for example, writing with wax has been preserved to this day in almost the entire Podravina area, as well as the techniques of scraping and removing paint with acid. Furthermore, wrapping eggs with sateen, wool or thread are also being used. Regardless of the making technique, an Easter egg was and still remains a symbol of hope, renewal and friendship.
