We invite you to the opening of the exhibition “The Story of Acanthus in the Koprivnica Town Museum” which will be held on Friday, 5 November 2021 at 6 pm on the ground floor of the Koprivnica Gallery. The acanthus motif as an ornament on the alter architecture of the local baroque master Stjepan Severin (according to the latest research by Stjepan Sever from Severin near Križevci) belongs to the vegetation elements of baroque wooden sculpture which, using Morelli’s method, reveal the authorship of Severin’s workshop or the master himself. In the case of the parts of the decomposed alter of St. Florian, the acanthus motif is problematized by layered dialogues between authors who belong to different time periods. It is also worth noting that Stjepan Sever was only confirmed as the author of the mentioned alter in written sources. The dialogues among Stjepan Sever and photographers Vladimir Kostjuk and Mario Periša in “The Story of Acanthus in the Koprivnica Town Museum” talk about tradition, ornamentation and the way of observing the world with the sense of purpose in which nature is both an inspiration and a teacher to artists of all techniques and periods. The exhibition remains open until 5 December 2021.
The program was implemented with European Union funds within the project "Wine folklore as a historical identity of Podravina and Pomurje" (reVITAlize) within the INTERREG V-A cross-border cooperation program Hungary-Croatia 2014-2020.
